Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab, The Flight 253 Terorist Suspect

Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab, aka Umer Farouk Abdul Mutallib, tried to explode flight 253 on Christmas day. Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab aboard the plane from Amsterdam and tried his mid air explosion when plane was almost 20 minutes away from landing.

Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab is Nigerian national who allegedly confessed of his Al-Quaida ties before the authorities. He admitted that he was provided with the explosion in Yemen. Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab is said to be a student of University College- London.

Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab managed to aboard the flight 253 bound for Detroit from Amsterdam with 278 passengers and 11 crew members. Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab has wrapped the explosive powder with a tape on his leg. In a try to mix some chemicals with a syringe in the explosive, Umar Farouk got himself badly burnt while no other passenger was hurt.

According to some eye witness passengers they smelt a smoke and some kind of glow and within a wink of eye another passenger pounded on the suspect. The crew members used extinguishers and water to put out the fire from Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab. Passenger also re-counted that Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab was yelling and screaming when crew and other passengers tackled him and one of the passenger told that word Afghanistan was uttered by Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab.

Umar Faouk Abdul Mutallab was in the database of the authorities as having some important relations with terrorists but he was not on the no-fly list of suspects. President Obama did order higher security at airports. The airport authorities has issued worldwide alert after this incident.

Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab’s attempt was fourth from Al-Quaida camp to blow the American Airline. The first was carried out in 1995 when a US plane was tried to be blown up in Operation Bojinka, the second try was of Richard Reid for Paris Miami bound plane and third was when United Kingdom Police counter the liquid bomb attempt on transatlantic flights in 2006.
