Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner has received a lot of press surrounding the fact that it’s created largely out of a carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) material. While this makes it lighter and stronger than traditional aircraft aluminum, it’s also more expensive to manufacture. With an emphasis on long-term costs such as fuel savings and maintenance, the CFRP engineering decision will likely prove true over the long haul.

Still, a team of scientists at Delft University of Technology are hoping to buck that trend toward CFRP materials in future aircraft. They’ve demonstrated a new aluminum-based composite material called CentrAl, which stands for Central Reinforced Aluminum. Comprised of alternating high-quality aluminum and composite layers in a fiber metal laminate (FML) assembly process, the end result is a very strong, light and inexpensive-to-manufacture material which is reportedly immune to metal fatigue.

According to the researchers, simple repairs to the CentrAl material can also be carried out immediately. This is unlike CFRP constructions which often require complete component replacement.

The new material is being presented this week at a conference in Delft, Netherlands by GTM Advanced Structures, Alcoa and engineers from Delft University of Technology. Research is continuing to look at fatigue, as well as analysis of damage caused by corrosion, hail storms and other weather phenomena, including even trucks that collide with aircraft while they’re on the ground. According to researchers, this material is showing promise toward addressing all of those goals.

Google had said to be working on incorporating Voice with its existing VoIP service and Gmail. As noted by CNET, Google could be ready to turn Gmail into a communications hub by adding the ability to make phone calls from the Google Chat interface. So that is no more a rumor, Google has not only made an official announcement about it but also made it live in US.

Calls to the U.S. and Canada will be free for at least the rest of the year and calls to other countries will be billed at our very low rates. Google worked hard to make these rates really cheap (see comparison table) with calls to the U.K., France, Germany, China, Japan—and many more countries—for as little as $0.02 per minute.

Dialing a phone number works just like a normal phone. Just click “Call phone” at the top of your chat list and dial a number or enter a contact’s name. If we have a Google Voice phone number, calls made from Gmail will display this number as the outbound caller ID. And if you decide to, you can receive calls made to this number right inside Gmail.

Actually, Keong Racun is the title of a song in Indonesia. How do these songs could be so famous that to be a hot topic on Twitter? This is apparently due to the emergence of a video clip of the song that brought the two girls on the YouTube site of a duration of 5:14 minutes. They named themselves Sinta and Jojo.

The two girls lipsync the song, record themselves, and upload the video on Youtube. Although only carrying just lipsync, both of which seem to record the behavior using a web camera’s attention netters. YouTube users Shinta and Jojo thinks this behavior is very funny and entertaining.

The trackpad, which is one big button that clicks, enables you to use it in place of a mouse and will be made with the same wear-resistant glass surface as the MacBook Pro and give 80 per cent more area, Apple says.

The new accessory supports a full set of gestures, including two-finger scrolling, pinching to zoom, rotating with your fingertips, three-finger swiping and four finger recognition. Meanwhile, tapping or double tapping on the surface initiates clicking. Magic Trackpad features the same sculpted aluminium design as the Apple Wireless Keyboard, and side by side the two sit flush at the same angle and height.

In the US the new Magic Trackpad will cost $69 and in the UK £59.

It has been well documented that if you cover the lower part of the iPhone 4 you can experience serious cellular receptions that could result in dropped calls. Apple’s problems came to a head earlier this week after Consumer Reports released a report on the iPhone 4 saying it couldn’t recommend purchasing the device.
